Make Some Noise

The Get Loud Challenge is turning climate action into a competition.

February 02, 2016

The Dutch oven is a cruel move to pull on a sibling. But it’s also a pretty decent analogy for global warming: “Smelly toxic gases get trapped in our atmosphere, warm up our planet, and make us sick!” At least that’s how Sophie, the girl in this video produced for the Get Loud Challenge, sees it. The idea is to encourage young people across the country to raise their voices about climate change—afterall,  keeping silent on this issue can be deadly.

Hosted by the Alliance for Climate Education and NextGen Climate America, the 15-week competition awards kids points for taking visible action both online and off. Each Tuesday, kids get a new challenge to complete, and being a good Samaritan isn't the only incentive. Prizes include a $10,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Peruvian Amazon.
