There are four weeks left in the annual National Geographic Photo Contest, but you don't have to wait that long to get your photography fix. Every week, the editors have been combing through hundreds of submissions and posting their favorites from each of the three official categories: Nature, Places, and People. The competition is heating up, with these eight stunners just being a tiny sampling of the talent.
The winner of each category will get $2,500 and his or her photo published in National Geographic Magazine—the grand prize is an additional $7,500 and a trip to National Geographic Headquarters in Washington, D.C. We don't envy the judges!
