Chairman Wyden Begins Work to Restore Renewable and Energy Efficiency Incentives

WASHINGTON (April 1, 2014) – U.S. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Ron Wyden (D-OR) released a draft bill today beginning the debate to renew some expired tax provisions. The committee is expected to debate and revise the measure over the coming days.

Following is a statement from Franz Matzner, associate director of government affairs at the Natural Resources Defense Council, on the chairman’s proposed bill:

“Chairman Wyden’s initial draft is the opening shot for Senate consideration of restoring important tax incentives. America doesn’t have to settle for dirty air and yesterday’s energy. It is vital that renewable energy and energy efficiency get the support they need to continue growing our economy and cutting pollution. These tax credits save consumers money, reduce U.S. dependence on dirty fuels, fight climate change and create jobs.

“We look forward to working with Chairman Wyden to get additional clean energy tax provisions added to the bill as it moves through committee action.”

Tax incentives for renewable energy, such as the wind Production Tax Credit, and energy efficiency improvements for appliances, homes and businesses expired December 31, 2013.
