Clean Power Plan Repeal Threatens Americans’ Health and Abandons Clean Jobs

WASHINGTON  – Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt announced today in Kentucky that he will sign on Tuesday, October 10, a proposed repeal of the Clean Power Plan, the most important step the United States has taken to curb the carbon pollution from power plants driving climate change.

Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, made this comment:

“The Clean Power Plan is the best tool we’ve got to fight climate change—and Trump wants to throw it away. No way. He wants to replace it with a Dirty Power Plan. Not now. Seas are rising. Croplands are turning to desert. Storms, floods and wildfires are raging. And it all gets worse if we let Trump walk away from the chance to clean up our dirty power plants, create half a million good-paying clean energy jobs and protect our children and communities from the growing dangers of climate change.

“As the Supreme Court has affirmed three times, the Clean Air Act compels the president to curb the greenhouse gas pollution driving climate change. We, and millions of Americans, will fight in every way to ensure the president acts in our best interests, not in the interests of polluters’ profits. That’s a promise we aim to keep.”
