Governor Mikie Sherrill Jump-Starts Clean Energy Progress with Executive Orders
Incoming New Jersey governor addresses energy costs, reliability, renewables on day one.
TRENTON, NJ – On her first day in office, Governor Mikie Sherrill signed two executive orders that address energy costs, grid reliability, and climate change. The first executive order directs the Board of Public Utilities to freeze utility bills, and the second executive order opens a request for proposals for solar energy and battery storage, and streamlines permitting to get more clean energy on the grid quickly, among other provisions.
The following statement is from Jackson Morris, director of state power sector policy at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“Governor Sherrill’s executive orders have outlined a bold vision to accelerate the deployment of clean energy and make New Jersey a more affordable and healthier place to live. Her actions fall in line with her campaign promises to protect our communities, reduce our carbon emissions, and address skyrocketing energy bills. We look forward to collaborating with Governor Sherrill and engaging in the critical regulatory processes to get the details of these proposals right for New Jersey. We’re confident those important deliberations will result in a robust energy portfolio that maximizes renewables and energy efficiency for the benefit of all ratepayers.”
