House Passes Landmark Infrastructure Bill

WASHINGTON (– The House passed a landmark infrastructure bill today that will make important investments in clean energy, drinking water upgrades, transportation systems and climate resilience.

A broad coalition of 23 environmental groups had urged passage of the measure.

The following is a statement by Stephanie Gidigbi, infrastructure lead at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“The House is taking a critical step to build a safer, healthier society for all of us, and address the challenge of climate change.

“This bill will transform our transportation system, spur deployment of clean energy, protect our water, preserve nature, create jobs, and help communities prepare for more extreme flooding and storms from a changing climate.

“Our nation requires bold investments that address the challenges of this moment. President Donald Trump has failed to deliver on his commitment on infrastructure and the administration’s opposition to this bill is another failed promise to the American people.

“Given the economic and global crises we are facing, the Senate should take up this bill immediately – and pass it.”
