NRDC President Statement on President-Elect Obama's Economic Recovery Plan

WASHINGTON (January 8, 2009) -- Today President-elect Obama unveiled his economic recovery plan. Frances Beinecke, President of the Natural Resources Defense Council, released the following statement:

“President-elect Obama’s proposal to repower America with renewable energy and make the nation more efficient will jump-start our economic recovery, create new jobs and cut global warming pollution. Economic productivity goes hand-in-hand with clean energy, and it is vital that our nation’s leaders continue to invest in a clean energy workforce so that we can make America more competitive and end our dependence on expensive, dirty fuels. Making our homes and buildings more efficient will save energy, reduce our energy costs, and create jobs that can’t be shipped overseas. We are working with members of Congress who understand that we can’t forge a new path for our economy without investing in clean, homegrown energy. We are all ready to work with President-elect Obama to create a new energy economy that will provide a lasting recovery for our nation’s economy and a clean energy future.”
