Pennsylvanians Voted for a Clean Energy Economy

HARRISBURG, P.A. – Pennsylvania voters yesterday ushered in a slate of pro-environment members to the General Assembly, signaling that it’s time for the Keystone State to take decisive action to grow a clean energy future for all.

Following is a statement from NRDC Eastern Campaigns Director, Jossie Steinberg:

“All along, the polls showed what we knew to be true – Pennsylvanians care deeply about the future of our environment. In districts across the state, voters soundly rejected politicians dead set on putting the profits of big polluters before people."

“With a host of new members in the General Assembly, Governor Wolf is well-positioned to tackle the state’s climate challenges, protect the health of all Pennsylvanians and move the economy forward.

“In light of the Trump administration’s ceaseless attacks on our environment – and on the heels of a new U.N. report’s sobering wakeup call – environmental leadership has never been more urgent.

“Fortunately, there are plenty of opportunities – from smart, equitable policies to expand energy efficiency and renewable energy, limits on carbon pollution, use of clean electricity to power vehicles and buildings, to safeguarding our clean air, drinking water and cherished open spaces.

“Pennsylvanians spoke. Now it’s time for Governor Wolf and the General Assembly to listen.”
