Senate Vote Opens Way to End the Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON - The Senate voted today on a measure paving the way to reopen the federal government soon, which has been shut down over a budget impasse between Congress and President Trump.

The following is a statement from Scott Slesinger, legislative director at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

The Trump shutdown never should have occurred in the first place. Now Congress needs to quickly turn to the vital business of America: DREAMers in humane immigration reform; children’s health insurance coverage; disaster aid for wildfire and hurricane recovery; and strengthening safeguards for our air, land and waters.”
