Trump Attacks Commonsense Project Safeguards
WASHINGTON – The White House announced today that it’s considering ways to undermine the crucial environmental reviews that guarantee citizens have a say in the projects that will define their communities. The Council on Environmental Quality’s notice contains 20 questions about how it should “update” its rules for the National Environmental Policy Act.
The following is a statement by Scott Slesinger, legislative director for the Natural Resources Defense Council:
“The White House is asking 20 questions, but the answer is abundantly clear: The Trump administration is trying to rig the game in favor of oil drillers, coal miners and other industrial interests.
“Americans deserve to have a say in the federal projects that will define their communities for decades to come. President Trump may want to play games with their interests, but we will do all we can to ensure that never happens.”
