WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2025) – The House of Representatives is considering a suite of “permitting reform” bills that would have negative impacts on communities, water resources, and the broader environment.
Following is reaction from NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) President and CEO Manish Bapna:
“Robust permitting reform is urgently needed—but these bills are not real reform. Instead of streamlining processes to accelerate clean energy deployment, they suppress the cheapest, cleanest energy sources while further tipping the scale in favor of fossil fuels. Actual reform means building more, faster—not speeding up pollution in communities already dealing with profound health and environmental harms while sacrificing the nation’s lands and waters. These bills are not a serious, durable solution. They should be rejected outright."
