WASHINGTON, D.C. — Dr. Jane Goodall, the pioneering primatologist, conservation leader, and climate change advocate whose discoveries about wild chimpanzees reshaped science and inspired respect for all species, died today in Los Angeles at age 91.
The following is a reaction from Andrew Wetzler, senior vice president, Nature, at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“Dr. Jane Goodall revealed to the world the intelligence, emotion, and dignity of our fellow beings. Her life’s work brought lasting respect to all species and inspired generations to protect them. She dedicated much of her career to preserving the richness of life she so cherished. As more wildlife faces unprecedented threats, we must carry forward her mission with urgency—safeguarding animals, their habitats, and the natural systems all people depend on.”
