Trump signs (another) executive order that threatens health and environmental safeguards

President Trump has signed a sweeping executive order that blatantly attacks federal protections of the environment and public health. The new order authorizes the creation of a “regulatory reform task force” within each administrative agency, accompanied by a designated “regulatory reform officer.”  Their mission: to seek out and destroy regulations. In a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference today, President Trump falsely claimed that 75 percent of regulations are “repetitive” and “horrible” and that he will create economic opportunity by getting rid of “unnecessary” rules. The reality is that Trump’s latest order is part of his administration’s full-scale assault—one that puts American lives at risk by eliminating laws that ensure clean air and clean water.
