Matt Williams

Senior Advocate, Forest Protection, Nature Program

Matt Williams focuses on protecting forests and the climate from the harmful impacts of bioenergy by advocating for reduced reliance on burning biomass in the power sectors of the UK and EU—two of the world's largest bioenergy consumers—as well as on a global level. Before joining NRDC, Williams worked for the National Trust, the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB), and, most recently, the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit. His conservation work has taken him from the peat swamp forests of Borneo to remote Scottish seabird islands. He is also vice chair of Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, a trustee for Wilderness Foundation UK, an advisor to Reserva: Youth Land Trust, and founder and a director of UK Youth for Nature. Williams is based in NRDC's Washington, D.C., office.
