While some Senators are focusing on just how thoroughly to cripple the Clean Air Act and jeopardize public health, others are standing up for clean air and drawing a clear line in the sand (smog?)
As Greenwire reports (subscription req'd), 19 Senators have sent President Obama a letter urging him to block Clean Air Act- and EPA-crippling riders and budget-slams in budget discussions with Republicans.
These Clean Air Defenders are:
Barbara Boxer - CA
John Kerry - MA
Joe Lieberman - CT
Dianne Feinstein - CA
Patty Murray- WA
Richard Durbin - IL
Charles Schumer - NY
Thomas Carper - DE
Marie Cantwell - WA
Frank Lautenberg - NJ
Bob Menendez - NJ
Ben Cardin -MD
Bernie Sanders -VT
Sheldon Whitehouse - RI
Tom Udall - NM
Jeanne Shaheen - NH
Jeff Merkley - OR
Kirsten Gillibrand - NY
Al Franken - MN
These Senators deserve our recognition and thanks for standing up to the polluter-driven attacks on our health, our clean air laws, and the EPA.
As I've blogged before (here, here and here) the public is firmly behind Congress letting the experts at the EPA do their job without interference from polluter-driven politicians.
So the public gets it, and these 19 Senators get it. And as I blogged yesterday, a whole lot of constituency groups - including businesses, latinos, faith, wildlife - support letting the EPA do its job.
And I just saw that Leonardo DiCaprio is calling on his twitter followers to help fight for clean air. Thanks Leo!
And thanks to the Senators willing to stand up for clean air. Now, where are the rest of you who truly know better?
