NRDC, together with our partners Northeast Organic Farming Association and Environmental Working Group, challenged the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) removal of climate-related materials from its website. The agency deleted webpages with information about climate-smart farming practices, mature and old-growth forest conservation, and rural clean energy projects.

The pages assist farmers who want to apply for billions of dollars of conservation funding, researchers who rely on climate data, and advocates seeking stronger federal forest protections. We have and would continue to use this material to—among other things—provide technical analysis on projects, assist partners, understand the consequences of the government’s actions, and develop policy proposals. Given the near-term importance of the removed information to our work, we quickly sought emergency relief. In mid-May 2025—before the court ruled on our request—the USDA committed to restoring all removed materials.
