Flint Water Still Too Dangerous to Drink, Finds Testing by Virginia Tech, Confirms Need for Immediate Water Delivery Solution

CHICAGO (April 12, 2016) – Water testing results released today show disappointing progress towards reducing the lead levels in Flint’s water. Dr. Marc Edwards of Virginia Tech confirmed that all homes in Flint, Michigan should be considered at risk and recommended that all residents should use bottled or filtered water for cooking or drinking “until further notice.”

Last month, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), ACLU of Michigan, Concerned Pastors for Social Action and Flint resident Melissa Mays asked a  federal court to order home water delivery for every household in the Michigan city served by Flint’s water system.

Following is a reaction to the Virginia Tech testing results from NRDC Midwest Director Henry Henderson:

“The results show Flint’s tap water remains unsafe and is likely to remain undrinkable for months. This is why we are suing. The people of Flint need to be kept out of harm’s way now. It hasn’t happened yet, and clearly will not for some time. We need to get the lead out of Flint. And these disappointing results make clear that federal court oversight is urgently needed to guarantee clean, safe drinking water for the people of Flint in a more timely manner.”
