Mid-Atlantic, Northeast in the Fast Lane for Clean Transportation, Climate Action
WASHINGTON – A bipartisan group of governors and the mayor of Washington, D.C. announced groundbreaking plans today to clean up transportation systems in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, reducing harmful climate pollution from vehicles and creating more equitable, livable and cleaner communities.
Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, made this comment:
“Progress doesn’t stop at the state line. These leaders are mapping the way to a brighter future, bringing their people and markets closer together through modern transportation options that mean stronger communities, greater prosperity and a cleaner, safer more sustainable world.
“Climate change is the central environmental challenge of our time. To fight it, we must move beyond the dirty and decaying transportation systems of the past, and shift to cleaner, smarter ways to connect us to the places we live, work and explore. This regional partnership puts the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic in the fast lane for that vital transition.”
