Governor Hochul Signs Bill to Halt Drilling and Fracking Using CO2

ALBANY, NY  – Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law a ban on drilling using carbon dioxide (CO2) in New York State (A8866/ S8357), which adds to an existing ban on fracking in the state.

The following is reaction from Richard Schrader, Director, New York Government Affairs at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“It’s common sense that New York State should not be a testing ground for drilling and fracking using carbon dioxide. It’s a very uncertain technology that has caused serious problems. The new law follows the path set by the state’s Climate Act, protecting our natural resources and public health. New York must devote its resources to clean, renewable energy.”
