House Passes Key Voter Protections; Time for Senate to Do the Same

WASHINGTON - Today the House passed the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

The following is a reaction from Angela Manso, national outreach director for NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“There’s nothing more fundamental to our democracy than our sacred right to vote. John Lewis fought to secure that right - for everyone. Today the House voted to defend that right. It’s time for the Senate to do the same.

“This bill restores key voter protections weakened by the disastrous 2013 U.S. Supreme Court ruling. It counters efforts by some state legislatures to make it harder for people of color to vote. And it strengthens our democracy by safeguarding our foundational right to hold our leaders to account at the ballot box.”
