Illinois General Assembly Passes Essential Clean Energy Bill

SPRINGFIELD, IL – After more than a year of intensive stakeholder negotiations, the Illinois General Assembly passed a sweeping energy bill today. The Future Energy Jobs Bill contains essential changes to the state’s stalled renewable energy policies and significantly increases investment in energy efficiency.

Following are quotes from Nick Magrisso, Midwest Legislative Director for the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“The Illinois General Assembly just set a viable path to a clean, modern energy economy that will pay dividends in this state for decades to come. This bill saves jobs today, creates tens of thousands of new jobs in the future, cleans our air and positions Illinois as a climate leader at a critical moment.”

“In the runup to today’s vote, some key energy efficiency provisions were lost from the bill. Unfortunately, the biggest savings and benefits will be felt in northern Illinois. We will continue to push for energy efficiency policies that benefit the entire state moving forward.”
