New York City Wins Major Victory in Congestion Pricing Battle

New York, NY – Today Judge Lewis J. Liman of Federal District Court in Manhattan ruled that the Trump administration’s attempt to end New York’s congestion pricing toll was illegal. While an appeal by Secretary Duffy is possible, the judge’s detailed and authoritative ruling would make such a move an uphill battle.

The following statement is from Eric A. Goldstein, senior attorney and NYC Environment Director at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“Judge Liman’s ruling reaffirms the validity of the Governor’s and the MTA’s actions in advancing this successful traffic-mitigating, air quality-enhancing, and public transit-funding program. This is a major victory for New York City’s trailblazing traffic reduction plan that is improving air quality and public health, which the Trump administration has been trying to undermine. The 149-page ruling found that the Transportation Secretary's attempt to derail the program was arbitrary, capricious, and contrary to law. Today’s authoritative ruling leaves congestion pricing still standing to the benefit of all those living in and visiting New York.”
