NRDC President: CEQ Climate Guidance a “Game-Changer” for Public Health, Climate Protection
WASHINGTON – The White House Council on Environmental Quality has issued a final guidance to federal agencies on assessing the greenhouse gas emissions and climate impacts of proposed activities and initiatives under the National Environmental Policy Act.
Rhea Suh, president of the Natural Resources Defense Council, issued this statement in response:
“CEQ’s final guidance is a game-changer. Now federal agencies must fully and properly analyze the climate impacts of their proposed actions before deciding on how to proceed. They shouldn’t approve mines that will destroy the climate, or bridges that will get washed away. That’s consistent with the foundational National Environmental Policy Act. Climate change is the central environmental challenge of our time, and these guidelines can pave the way for smart policies that better protect our children, our health and our communities from dangerous carbon pollution and climate catastrophe.”
