NRDC Sues DOE for Lack of Transparency in the Termination of Clean Energy Funding
WASHINGTON, D.C. – NRDC sued the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today for violating the Freedom of Information Act. The agency failed to respond to two separate requests submitted by NRDC in 2025 seeking information on the DOE’s review and termination of Office of Clean Energy Demonstration programs and awards for clean industrial and energy projects.
The following is a statement from Alex Hillbrand, Senior Director for the Industry Division at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“The Energy Department has failed to adequately explain to the American people why it’s cancelling obligated funding for clean industrial and energy projects that would strengthen America’s manufacturing base, lower energy costs for Americans, support domestic industry competitiveness, and create hundreds of thousands of high-quality jobs.
“The DOE must answer for halting the technological innovations we need to usher us toward a clean and competitive economy. We’re suing to find out what went into this devastating decision.”
