NRDC’s Gina McCarthy: EPA’s Dangerous New Proposal Ignores Science

WASHINGTON – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency this week broadened its plans to limit scientific studies that traditionally have been used in designing safeguards to protect public health.

Following is a statement by Gina McCarthy, President and CEO of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“In the midst of a public health crisis, Americans deserve a government that relies on the best available science to protect everyone against harm. This proposal does the opposite.

“Now is not the time to play games with critical medical research that underpins every rule designed to protect us from harmful pollution in our air and in our water. This move is even more egregious than the last proposal, which the administration’s own hand-picked scientists criticized.

“The American people have the right to know the truth about threats to our health, and the truth about our future in the face of the climate crisis. We will not be misled or forced to accept willful ignorance at our own expense.’’
