Senator Ayotte Joins Majority of U.S. Republicans in Backing Clean Power Plan

WASHINGTON (October 26, 2015) – Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) over the weekend expressed her support for the Obama administration’s Clean Power Plan. The following is a statement by David Doniger, director of the Climate and Clean Air Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“In supporting the Clean Power Plan, Senator Ayotte is reflecting the views of most Americans—including a majority of Republicans in New Hampshire and throughout the country. Sadly, most of her Republican colleagues in Congress still have no plan to deal with climate change—and instead intend to block the Clean Power Plan, which would reduce dangerous carbon pollution by 32% in 15 years, from 2005 levels.

“Senator Ayotte knows that common sense solutions like the Clean Power Plan are achievable, and that New Hampshire is well positioned to meet carbon pollution reduction targets already because of its involvement in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative.”
