Trump Administration California Water Letter is Galling

SAN FRANCISCO – The Trump Administration sent a letter to California Governor  Gavin Newsom with claims that California is failing to live up to its Clean Water obligations. The letter comes a week after the Trump Administration threatened to withdraw infrastructure money for the state.

Following is reaction from Steve Fleischli, senior director of water initiatives at Natural Resources Defense Council:

"The Trump Administration has been hellbent on rolling back clean water protections from day one, so it is utterly appalling to see them use the issue to lash out at one of the nation's most vulnerable populations. While California has its water quality challenges, it takes real gall to weaponize the Clean Water Act against the homeless, while devoting so much energy to overturning the Clean Water Rule, gutting enforcement programs and undermining other protections that Americans rely upon for clean water.”
