Trump’s Misdirection on Infrastructure

WASHINGTON – The White House announced a plan today that it claims would lead to speedier environmental reviews for infrastructure projects. This memorandum just institutes a bipartisan law from 2015, which the administration has so far failed to implement.

The following is a statement by Scott Slesinger, legislative director of the Natural Resources Defense Council:

“President Trump’s much ballyhooed infrastructure plan has been diminished to little more than an ideological attack on environmental safeguards.”

“Local residents should have a say in the projects that will define their communities for decades to come. Short-circuiting that process won’t help get new projects built. It’s a scapegoat for this administration’s failure to secure new funding.”
