NRDC Reaction to Governor-Elect Xavier Becerra’s Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Governor-elect Xavier Becerra formally accepted Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton’s concession, with Becerra receiving 64 percent of the vote, so far.  On the campaign trail, Becerra pledged to defend California and make energy, healthcare and housing more affordable for working families.

The following is a statement from Victoria Rome, California government affairs director at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):

“Governor-elect Becerra has made energy affordability a priority on the campaign trail, and NRDC is ready to help him deliver. Becerra’s proposal for a free ‘power hour’ can help lower utility bills for low-income families and renters. Californians are counting on Becerra to work with other state leaders to continue fighting climate change while keeping energy reliable and affordable.

“Becerra says the most effective way to lower healthcare costs is to keep people healthy in the first place. We agree. Ensuring that all Californians have access to clean air and clean water will prevent illnesses and improve quality of life.

"As California transitions to new leadership, NRDC is confident that Governor-elect Becerra won’t miss a beat on standing up for California values and continuing the state’s path to a clean and healthy environment that’s accessible and affordable for everyone."
