NEW YORK – The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced late yesterday proposed regulations that would strengthen the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in New York to help reach power sector climate-pollution reduction targets.
Following is a statement by Jackson Morris, Director, State Power Sector Policy at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“RGGI is the single most effective multi-state cap and invest program to cut power plant pollution in history, and it was born right here in New York. This is an important step for New York to take in officially continuing to build on progress made in cleaning the air and growing the clean energy economy over the last 15 years. This proposed regulation provides a clear path through 2037 that will ensure New York and the region continue to show leadership in cutting pollution, creating jobs, and addressing energy affordability with investments in clean energy that will save ratepayers money.”
