The transportation sector is the largest contributor of greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. To stay below the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s recommended 1.5 °C of global warming, we must dramatically reduce greenhouse gases—and we cannot reach these goals without reforming and “greening” our country’s transportation. To this end, NRDC has identified several transportation policy solutions that will improve our climate while also benefiting our communities in an equitable way. These include increasing funding for clean transportation options, allowing congestion pricing, and developing community connections programs, among others.
