Alex Hillbrand leads NRDC’s Industry division, which works to decarbonize and transform heavy industry—including steel, cement, and aluminum manufacturing—and foster innovation and the uptake of novel climate technologies, including hydrogen, carbon dioxide removal, climate-friendly refrigerants, and more. He joined NRDC in 2015 to press for global action to phase down hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) greenhouse gases in the U.S., now underway under the American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act, and globally under the Montreal Protocol. Hillbrand holds a bachelor’s degree in physics from Cornell University and a master’s degree in energy systems engineering from the University of Michigan and is based in the Washington, D.C., office.
