The Peach State has ranked as one of the nation’s top places for growing the clean energy workforce, with many recent investments from clean energy companies—a testament to the state’s strong record in new business development. NRDC’s Georgia-based advocates have helped make the business case to ensure the momentum can continue, despite federal energy policy headwinds. We’ve also focused on holding state regulators accountable to ratepayers for energy affordability as Georgia’s power system strains under the growing footprint of the AI industry and its data center boom.

With Atlanta being the largest metropolitan area in the Southeast and home to more than half of Georgia’s total population, NRDC also advocates alongside its partners for expanding the city’s low-carbon, equitable transportation options. Atlanta has the region’s only heavy-rail transit system, MARTA, but state funding is sorely lacking. To turn the tide on this and other transportation inequities, NRDC is building coalitions and seizing policy opportunities at the state and city levels.
