SACRAMENTO – Governor Newsom announced the administration’s proposed budget today, highlighting an ongoing public health and science-based response to the coronavirus pandemic, support for children, families, schools and vulnerable communities, and investments to improve our state’s resiliency in the face of the climate crisis.
The following is a reaction from Victoria Rome, director of California Government Affairs for NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council):
“A proposed budget is a road map of California values and Governor Newsom has again centered climate action and equity today in his. With additional investments proposed for clean vehicles and buildings, climate education, and protecting communities from extreme heat and climate stress, the Governor has shown that California takes the climate crisis seriously. Coupled with the previous state budget’s $15 billion, three-year funding commitments, California is making historic investments in ‘future-proofing’ our neighborhoods, natural resources, and economy from the ravages of climate change.”
The legislature must pass a final budget bill by June 15, 2022.
