Biden Administration Signs Off On Low-Carbon Materials for 150 Federal Projects

WASHINGTON  — Today the General Services Administration (GSA) announced $2 billion in investments for clean materials in federal construction projects. This initiative advances commitments made a year ago to accelerate Buy Clean efforts within the GSA and Department of Transportation, spurred in large part by funding from the Inflation Reduction Act.

The following reaction is from Ian Wells, federal industrial decarbonization advocate at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council).

“By leveraging the federal government’s purchasing power to buy cleaner concrete, steel, and other industrial materials, the Biden Administration is making a major step forward to cut industrial emissions, increase jobs, and make American industries more competitive globally. GSA’s Buy Clean pilot program has the potential to spur new markets, and to move it forward we hope the GSA meets or exceeds its most ambitious targets for carbon reduction.”
