Alaska Director and Senior Attorney, Land & Wildlife program
Niel Lawrence oversees NRDC’s efforts to preserve and protect Alaska’s iconic land and seascapes—including the Arctic and vast Tongass rainforest—and helps guide efforts to end climate-wrecking oil exploration on federal lands. Prior to his current role, Lawrence directed NRDC’s national forest advocacy initiatives. Before joining NRDC, he litigated wetlands, water pollution, and land use issues for the Massachusetts Attorney General’s office. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Oregon and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. Lawrence has offices in Olympia, Washington, and in San Francisco.
